The holiday season can leave you feeling overwhelmed. If the grinch hasnt stolen your good spirit yet, try these tips to stay stress-free.

1. Maintain healthy habits.

Challenge yourself during the holidays. For example, be active every day over the next three weeks. Take it a step further and start the day with a healthy breakfast, limit the sweets and get at least seven hours of sleep each night. If you don’t completely give up your healthy habits, you won’t feel like you have to start over once the holidays are over.

2. Avoid seasonal sweets.

The holidays often dish up extra helpings of less-than-healthy treats. Try preparing healthy snacks that are ready to eat when the urge to snack strikes. If you’re hosting a holiday party, challenge yourself to make delicious and healthier snacks.

3. Stay active.

Instead of beating yourself up about missing a workout, sprinkle some healthy activities into your daily routine. For example, if the weather isn’t too frightful and you’re working from home, ride your bike around your neighborhood during a lunch break. If dinner is going to be a feast, opt for a light lunch, then take a vigorous walk. And keep the family moving. When the kids are home from school, squeeze in some active chores and trips to the park.

4. But not too active.

Give yourself the gift of peace. If you need some down time to recharge, declare a “me time” and do something that relaxes you. Try yoga, meditation or spending time in nature.

5. Make a plan for the new year.

It’s a great time to reset for the new year – but don’t set unrealistic goals that will only discourage or overwhelm you. Lay out realistic, sustainable steps for the months ahead. For example, start a daily walking routine before you set your sign up for that marathon.

2. Slow down or take a break if you need it

Being productive and working towards your goals is great, but once in a while, it is human to need to slow down or take a break. Reduce your levels of stress by simplifying your routine. Break down your tasks into smaller ones and set realistic dealines.

If you need a break, take it without blaming yourself for not doing anything. Think of it as a recovery for you to come back stronger. 

3. Do more of what you love

Watch your favourite movie, cook your favourite meal, visit your favourite spot in town- anything that will help you feel more positive. In times when you do not feel like doing anything, choosing the things that you love is the best way to go.

4. Get outdoors

Getting out in the sun and breathing in fresh air can do wonders for your mood! Ideally, a walk in nature is relaxing and helps to recharge. But if it is easier, even a walk to run errands is beneficial. 

5. Switch the negatives into positives

Write down all the positive things in your life and keep it handy. Read it to yourself whenever you are feeling bad to remind yourself of what is good in life, that you have not always felt this way and that it will pass. 

6. Be patient

An improvement in how you are feeling will take time. It may even get worse before it gets better. Be patient and focus on taking care of yourself the best you can. The bad days will lessen over time. 

7. Avoid making important decisions

Postpone the important decisions for later. A bad mood can fog your perspective and cause you to make the wrong decisions. If it is unavoidable, choose someone in your life whom you can trust and ask for their help in making the decision. 

 

8. Get some shut eye

Being sleep deprived can make the happiest person feel irritated. Make sure to get a good nights sleep and even nap when you feel like it.

1. Set a time limit

Give yourself 30 minutes to do it. With an in-perosn audition, you would get only 10 minutes to do your best. Having too much time on your hands can lead to overthinking about minute details. Avoid that by setting a timer for yourself. 

2. The first 15 seconds are the most important

The start of the video is where you should show who you are. The first impression will set you apart. Find ways to hook the casting directors in in those first 15 seconds. 

3. Send your self-tape to someone else to review

Ask someone close to you, who  might not even be in the industry, to watch the video and give you feedback. You can easily get swept into perfecting your self-tape when you watch it over and over again. Having someone else review it can help to put you at ease. 

4. Adjust the projection of your voice

Performing on stage requires that you project more. But with a self-tape audition, a normal speaking volume is ideal. Play the scene, not the setting. For example, if it is an intimate scene, you may want to use a softer volume.

5. Make sure that the file translates well when sent

Send it to yourself or someone close to you to verify that the video is not pixelated, there are no issues to download the file, the sound is correct.
