Toronto Acting Agency – Toronto Talent Agency – Tip Tuesday – How To Perform Like No One Is Watching

As opposed to public speaking, acting involves performing as if the audience is not there.  Practice our tips to learn how to tune out the outside world.

Toronto acting agency – Toronto talent agency – Tip Tuesday – Acting Tips
  1. Establish a Fourth Wall

A fourth wall between an actor and the audience is essential to focus on your performance and be vulnerable and authentic. To develop that feeling, practice in public. Start by mumbling your lines while sitting in a coffee shop, for example. The more you do it, the better you will get at tuning out the crowd of people around you.

2. Watch Your Own Performances

Another method to build a fourth wall is to record yourself and then watch it. We are usually our worst critics, making it difficult to watch ourselves. But being self-aware and recognizing your weaknesses will help you to focus on your performance.

3. Group Practice

Find a group of actors to practice improv. This group activity is a great mix of interacting with the audience, finding characters, and acting. During improv, you have to constantly make and break the fourth wall, until it becomes a habit!

Model Agency Toronto – Modeling Toronto – Tip Tuesday – How To Pose For Photos

Posing for photos can be intimidating, whether you are taking them for your personal social media page or starting a modeling career. While working with a professional photographer, you will be directed on how to pose, but what about when you are posing on your own without direction?

1. Know Your Angles

The angle of the shot makes a huge difference. Try different angles to see what compliments your features the best and remember to practice them on your next shoot.

For example, you can accentuate your legs in a full-body shot by having the camera just below eye level and facing slightly upward. For portraits, try a higher angle and snap a lot of photos until you get that sweet spot.

2. Check the Light

Light is your best friend in a photoshoot. Always turn your face towards the light, especially if it is natural light. It will brighten your face, blur out dark spots, and make you glow!

3. Relax

Be calm and relaxed. Your body language will show in your pose if your body is tensed. Remember to relax your body and your eyes, too.

4. Keep a Good Posture

Slouching makes you look insecure and frumpy. Stand up straight to look confident and powerful. It actually makes you feel more confident, so that will shine through your photos!

5. Move!

Especially when taking casual photos, instruct your camera person to take photo burst while you move around while posing. The best poses are actions caught in the perfect timing, and a photo with movement is more interesting.

6. Get Inspired

Look at models and influencers photos to find inspiration. Save for later when you are practicing posing. Adopt the ones that accentuate your features.

Toronto Acting Agency – Toronto Talent Agency – Tip Tuesday – What To Wear For An Audition

Auditions sometimes have specific clothing instructions, which you should follow. But generally, there are no hard rules for auditions; whether it is a self-tape or in-person audition. Below are a few guidelines on what to wear so that your acting skills can shine.

Toronto acting agency – Toronto talent agency – tip Tuesday – what to wear for an audition

1. Check if There Are Specific Instructions About Clothing

If your auditions guidelines include instructions for clothing, follow them. You may be asked to wear a full suit or athletic clothing, for example.  Make sure that you are wearing what theyve asked for, as you will not even be considered for the role if you do not.

2. Do Not Wear Clothing With Distractions

You want to keep the focus on you and your acting skills. Do not distract your audience by wearing clothing with graphics, patterns, words, or pictures on it.

Also, avoid wearing any clothes that are revealing as well as jewelry. You want the focus to be on your face. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that will allow you to give your best performance.

Go for simple, plain, unicolor pieces of clothing to make your outfit.

3. Choose a Color That Will Be Visible Against the Background

It is not a problem if your clothing matches the background, but it can be distracting. In the case that it is an in-person audition and you do not know what the background is, avoid going for colors such as black or white as it is common for backgrounds to be in these colors.

4. Keep the Effect of the Lighting in Mind

Under certain lights, folds of dark-colored clothing can be hard to see. Your body movements are then not clearly visible. This is especially important for self-tape auditions.

Before starting to film your self-tape, test out a short clip and move around to make sure that movement is visible. Testing the lighting and sound of your video is more important than what you are wearing anyway.

5. No Hats or Glasses

Hats are not only distracting, they can also hide how your head looks, and depending on the hat, it can create shadows on your face.

Glasses can also hide your features and facial expressions. Unless you have glasses in your headshots, do not wear glasses for your audition. You may choose to wear contacts if you need them.
