Here are five ways that you can support your teenager to become a better actor!
1. Give Them Space to Love Acting
To be successful in this industry, a kid must love acting for the art form that it is, not for cool points, fame, money, or for you. Introduce opportunities such as training in a fun and challenging environment to them and leave them to find out if they really love it or not. Find the balance to be encouraging without being pushy.
2. Let Them Feel Their Emotions
There is so much that tells us happiness is the only good feeling to have. Kids can react by suppressing their feelings of sadness, frustration, anger, and so on. This tends to lead to over-acting instead of showing a truthful portrayal of emotions.
3. Encourage Them to Have Life Experiences
The best actors have had a lot of life experiences and fully understand the world around them. Activities such as volunteering are a great way to enrich a young teens life.
4. Broaden Their Knowledge of History and Culture
Encourage them to study classic movies, TV, and theatre. Have them read books on acting, the history of film, and culture to widen their scope.
5. Engage Their Creativity
Great actors live creative lives. Encourage them to explore other creative forms of expression in addition to acting such as writing, painting, music, shooting films and videos of their own, or dancing. This will help them to find their own artistic voice.
