Benjamin R.!
An introduction to Benjamin:
“My name is Benjamin Russell, I’m from Brampton, Ontario and have lived in Canada my whole life. However, my parents are from Jamaica and England with Jamaica being the biggest cultural influence in my life. I’ve always been an active person so during all of my grade school years the most regular item I bought growing up were shoes… and not the nice ones because you shouldn’t run in those.
Being that Jamaican heritage is still apart of my life, a lot of meals consisted of traditional dishes such as ackee and salt fish with dumplings and green banana or cornmeal porridge on Saturdays. But, being that I live in Canada and my mom is a food lover, my family has been exposed to an assortment of different foods from several different cultures and nationalities. Since I was exposed to so much as a kid, I saw many things that I could be interested in but I’ve always been drawn to the arts. My highest grades were usually in arts or performing arts classes.”
Why did you get into acting/modelling?
“This passion for the arts is what has led me into modelling and acting. It’s an industry that allows for a lot of creativity and exploration of the imagination and I love those things. So acting and modelling is a fun avenue of life that I believe I’ll do well in if I put in the work. I am very determined to complete a task to the best of my ability when I’m given one. In the performing arts, this could mean retakes of whatever I’m working on to figure out the details.”
What do you like to do your spare time?
“Right now I’m a full time engineering student, but when I’m not studying or in classes, I’m usually studying a language (Spanish or Korean), taking dance classes or singing. I enjoy studying languages because it has opened up my perspective to new and different ways of thinking. I’ve learned a lot about different cultures that I find intriguing and I’ve begun to incorporate my interest in dancing and singing into my interest of language by dancing or singing to music in one of those languages. Being a model and actor requires one to be versatile and by experiencing different things, I believe I become a better and more capable actor and model.”
What is your dream role?
“My dream role is one that gives me the opportunity to showcase my physical abilities in the form of an action scene or a dance scene. I’d also like the role to be one where lots of subtleties are important because I find I am a strong actor with my facial and bodily expressions. A role with these requirements where the character is also trying to help people is a role that I’d desire to play.”
What advice would you give to someone new to the industry?
“I would advise someone who wants to become an actor to always be training even if they do not know when they’ll get a role. By doing this, they will always be learning something that they can use in the next role that they do get. By experiencing new things you can be become more familiar with similar aspects of a project or more adaptable to new aspects of a project.”

“I hope that my experiences and passions will inspire others to get into the acting and modelling realm with anticipation to work hard at their craft.”
