For any one who has a full time job and personal endeavors, it is difficult to manage both. It is no different for child actors and models who also have to focus on school work. With school resuming soon, we have put together a list of tips to help you find balance between your modeling career and school!
1. Set a schedule
Have a parent or teacher help you to make a schedule. It is a lot easier to manage your time when you are organized and have your priorities set. It can be difficult to choose between career and schoolwork throughout the day, but if you have time set for both, it will save you from feeling overwhelmed.
2. Set realistic goals
List realistic goals for each week and work towards them one at a time. Start with smaller goals and once you have achieved these, you can focus on the bigger ones. Achieving each goal also helps with your confidence and makes you feel in control of your schedule.
3. Separate school work and career
Do not mix your homework with contracts and scripts. Keep them organized separately so that you have a clean workspace without distraction. This allows you to focus on one thing at a time and switch between them as needed.
4. Take breaks and vacations
Our energy runs out, our mind and body need rest. Listen to your body and take breaks when you need them. A tired mind and body will result in low productivity, so make sure to recharge.
Refresh your mind by taking a vacation or spending time outdoors with friends and family. These are great ways to change the scenery and calm your mind.
5. Give your best at both career and school
If you followed the above tips, you have a schedule, goals and are organized. It will be easier to focus on one aspect at a time. When you are doing school work, only focus on that. When you switch to acting/modeling work, do not think of school work. Keep your focus organized too!
6. Be prepared to face challenges
Managing a career and school is definitely no easy task. Even with good time management and organization, challenges will come up. Be prepared to face it when it happens. A tip is to focus on the reason why you want to model and act, remember the passion behind the task!7
